I know it’s been a long time between drinks, and my apologies for this. I don’t want to be the newsletter guy that spams you like a crazy man, so I’ve been laying low.
Let me start off by giving you some free stuff, so that you know I really do love you. These tracks are all taken from the Live Album Launch of Backbreaker in November at the Annandale Hotel. The live DVD is only a couple of months away now, and I have to say I’m quite proud of it.
So a recap… Performances wise, this year the focus was the first couple of months. Starting with Peats Ridge Festival. Always a fun experience. Then I went to Tamworth for the Country Music Festival… this was amazing. I met so many great musicans and I was introduced to a world that I never knew existed. I spent my week there busking in the streets, sleeping on hotel room floors, and for the last few nights in my extremely large(seriously) sleeping quarters in the back of my commodore station wagon. All I needed was a quiet street and a a big ol’ tree to shade me… great times. (Did blow up my radiator on the way home though… bad times) Thanks to Oporto for your sensational breakfast menu. Also managed to swindle my way into sitting right up the front with the ABC team for the awards night. Big thankyou to those guys for their generosity.
Our last tour as a band was Jan/Feb up around Byron, The Gold Coast and Brisbane. It was an amazing time for me and opened my eyes to the touring world, which we will be re-entering later this year.
Since then it’s really been all about my iPhone app for songwriters. For those of you who don’t know… I designed an app that allows musicans to document and build on their ideas…10 tracks of recording, allows you to convert your voice into instruments etc.. It stems from my time as an Industrial Designer. You can have a look at http://songcatcherapp.com
It’s been a mammoth task to get this project to where it is at now and I’m really proud to have it in the market place. The goal really is for it to generate enough revenue to finance my music career (where the heart lies)… So if you know any musicians that you think might like it, feel free to spread the word. We have a facebook page and twitter etc.. just search songcatcher and we’ll pop up on your screen.
The good news is that the new update is out, publicity campaign in the US has been run and I can now start bringing my attention back to the good stuff 🙂 Making tunes!!
In March the band and I went into the studio with your friend and mine, Sean Carey, to lay down the foundations for our next EP. It sounds terrific and last night I started the mixes. Sooo much work ahead, but we will have a new release for you in a few months 🙂 It feels so great playing with these guys. Though we don’t play that many shows, we’ve been a team for a year and a half now, and you can really hear that in these recordings, which is something that really excites me.
Here are a couple of vid’s of us in the studio. If you like them, I would totally love you for passing them on to your super pals.
Until next time,
Thanks for the support.
Hi all. Plenty going on at the moment. Just wrote this one, free download over at soundcloud. Enjoy!
So…Just got back from Tamworth! Was soo much fun. Met heaps of cool cats, the Country Music Awards was a really great night. It’s a super tight community up there. Lots of love floating about. Definately recommend it if you’ve never been. I did some busking up there, my first real busking experience to be honest. Had its moments, to be sure. It can be a lot fun, especially if you have friends jamming with you. Big ups Benjamin Sea for coming down and pulling out the chops.
In other news, our Peats Ridge Festival show over new years was a great success. Thanks to a great crowd, and a great festival. Always love playing there. And a sweet backline. I now need to find myself a killer fender twin, the one on stage kinda completed my life. Ridge Big ups for Paul Derricott and Brett Adrien for filling out our rhythm section on that one. Seamless, cats for sure.
Jan 13 saw us open for Blonde Sovereign at what turned out to be a sold out Vanguard. Such a great night, and a great bunch of guys. We scored a live recording from that one. Say tuned for that one, I’ll bootleg it for you soon.
I believe I’m playing in Parramatta park for Australia Day, so if you’re looking for something to do and feel like getting your picnic rug on…
And then….. our first tour north. Brisbane, Byron, Gold Coast. 28th, 30th, 31st! Lets do this.
Big Love peoples,
Just reskinned the website… good times.
Wednesday Night I’m opening solo for the final show at the Hollywood Hotel this Year. This event has been put on every week by fantastic Sydney band ‘The Falls’, and has become what I think is a very valuable part of the Sydney music scene. It’s a cultural experience, and a recommended one. Details on the right….
Aside from my project, I also play guitar in this great band and we’ve just finished our debut release. Check out the lead track!
For the last few years I have been working on developing an iPhone app for songwriters. The goal was to create the ultimate sketchpad for musicians so that they can work on ideas when they are away from their instruments and studio’s. Last week it came out! To grab a copy search ‘songcatcher’ in the iTunes store. To check out some demo videos, head here: http://songcatcherapp.com/demonstration-videos
A big thankyou to all the wonderful people that turned out for our album launch last week!!! Couldn’t have asked for more. The video and audio recordings have come out really well and we hope to put together a live release soon.
The time has come. Backbreaker has arrived. We look forward to hanging out with you guys on Thursday night. Time for some rehearsals 🙂
We’re excited to announce that our Album launch will be going down at The Annandale Hotel in Sydney on November 4. check out the fb event here http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=134488833265035 More on this soon.
